About EatsAKL
A no-nonsense guide to eating well on the North Shore
How it started
I built this because I was tired of not being able to find somewhere to eat. Not because there is nothing good out there. The North Shore has some genuinely brilliant restaurants. But working out what is actually on the menu, what it costs, whether it is even open that day? Somehow that ends up being a whole thing.
I have an egg allergy too, which makes it worse. Every time I try somewhere new I am doing a full investigation before I even get in the car. Dead links. PDFs that will not load. Review sites that tell me everything except what I actually need to know. It wears you down.
EatsAKL is the thing I kept wishing someone would build. Full menus. Real prices. Hours that are actually right. All of it on your phone, before you commit. Milford, Takapuna and Browns Bay are live. More of the Shore is coming.
What we do

What we collect
When you submit a community post, we collect the content of your post, an optional display name you provide, the suburb and restaurant you reference (if any), and the date and time of submission. We do not collect your IP address, device information, or any account details. No login or registration is required.
How we use it
Community posts are used for two purposes. First, they are displayed publicly on the EatsAKL community feed so other visitors can read them. Second, the content of posts — including restaurant mentions, sentiment, and suburb references — is analysed anonymously in aggregate to understand patterns in what people are looking for, what they enjoy, and what could be improved across North Shore dining. This information may be shared with restaurants as anonymised consumer feedback to help them understand their customers better. No individual post is ever attributed to a specific person in any report or communication shared externally.
Anonymity
The name field is optional and entirely self-chosen. We encourage you not to include your full name or any personal details in your post. EatsAKL treats all posts as anonymous contributions. Any name provided is treated as a display name only, not as personal identification.
Storage and retention
Posts are stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is retained for as long as EatsAKL operates or until a post is removed by an administrator. We do not sell or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to request access to information held about you, request correction of any inaccurate information, and make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe your privacy has been interfered with. Because posts are not linked to identifiable individuals, we may not be able to locate a specific post on request without additional context. To make any request, contact us at aucklandeatsnz@gmail.com.
Moderation
EatsAKL reserves the right to remove any post that is offensive, defamatory, spam, or otherwise inappropriate. Posts are not pre-moderated but may be removed at any time at the discretion of the EatsAKL team.
